Introducing the Home Style Pattern Books from Andersen Windows

BAYPORT, Minn. (October 31, 2012) —Andersen Windows today introduces the first of a series of Home Style Pattern Books giving homeowners, designers, builders, remodelers and architects an easy to use resource to effectively communicate historically accurate design elements.

The books are part of the Andersen Home Style Library introduced earlier in 2012 with the launch of the company’s Andersen Architectural Collection; an innovative approach focusing first on the style of a home, and letting that style lead the choice of windows, doors and accompanying accessory combinations that bring the home’s design to life.

Andersen Home Style Pattern Books can be viewed online or downloaded free in PDF format for both the Craftsman Bungalow and Georgian Federal styles for a limited time. Spiral-bound, 26-page print versions will be available free of charge for a limited time starting mid-November.

Each pattern book is dedicated to a single style and contains illustrations and descriptions of the architectural elements that make up each style including proportions, groupings, positioning, accent windows, color palettes, combinations and grille patterns; interior and exterior trim details; entry door, hardware and art glass options. The series begins with the Craftsman Bungalow and Georgian Federal house styles. Over time, Andersen will add to the series of architectural pattern books to include the predominant styles of homes found throughout the U.S. and North America.

“In designing our Andersen® A-Series product line, we spent years researching the styles that define the housing stock around the United States and North America,” said Jay Libby, creative services manager at Andersen Windows. “These pattern books are the outcome of that research and can be applied to all our products. We want to share the information with any architect or trade professional whose work balances creative expression with delivering authentic, high-integrity, classic style and the demands for customization and performance in modern construction.”

Pattern books are not a new concept. Since ancient Rome, architects have relied on pattern books as their guide to understanding and using the formulas that define architectural designs. These early documents recorded building characteristics that were deemed to be the definitive indicators of certain styles. They were important tools in creating and communicating a common language for architects and builders of the day. That same idea applies to the Andersen Home Style Pattern Books. Professionals and homeowners will find a common language to discuss the design of a home effectively and efficiently.
