Andersen Sponsors Made Here in Downtown Minneapolis Cultural District

Bayport, Minn. (July 2014) Minneapolis, with its growing public transit system, outdoor spaces, energetic downtown atmosphere and indelible connection to the arts is becoming even more enticing with the addition of Made Here. This unique public art initiative showcases the work of local artists and Minnesota heritage brands in formerly empty downtown storefront windows to highlight Minnesota’s rich creative heritage. Made Here is part of a Cultural District partnership led by Hennepin Theatre Trust and sponsored by Andersen Windows.

As the presenting sponsor for this new urban walking gallery, Andersen is proud to be part of launching Made Here with a free public celebration beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014. Festivities and walking tours of the newly installed showcases begin at The Parklot on Hennepin Avenue between 9th and 10th streets next to the Orpheum Theatre. The opening night event also features a cash bar, a food truck, live music, comedy and dance. The Parklot transforms part of the concrete surface parking lot into a fun and welcoming public space with brightly painted walls and surfaces, greenery, seating and a small performance area for people of all ages to enjoy. Hennepin Theatre Trust plans to build five future Parklots around downtown Minneapolis.

“By combining innovation and talent from Minnesota artists displaying their work, the Cultural District in downtown Minneapolis has the potential to be even more vibrant and captivating over the run of Made Here,” said Sal Abbate, SVP and chief marketing officer at Andersen. “Andersen Corporation is the largest window and door manufacturer in North America. Made Here allows us to honor our roots as a Minnesota-based company founded by immigrant craftsmen over 100 years ago.”

Made Here activates the downtown Minneapolis’ Cultural District and incorporates 15 venues, covering 18 city blocks and filling some 40 storefronts with art by Twin Cities and Minnesota-based artists. Andersen Corporation has installed a series of three windows in the Renaissance Square building at 5th St. and Nicollet Mall. The company’s display features a series of three art pieces, each representing Andersen’s involvement and growth in the community currently and in the past.

“We’re proud to support Hennepin Theater Trust and the local communities where we live and work with such an accessible project for the community.” Abbate said.
