Habitat for Humanity News

Andersen Corporation at Des Moines Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build

BAYPORT, Minn., May 16, 2017 – Window installation is happening today as Andersen Corporation is providing a team of more than 40 volunteers this week to help build one of 10 new affordable homes for Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity® Blitz Build.

“Helping to build energy-efficient, good-quality homes for working families is one of the key ways we live our long-standing values of corporate citizenship and partnership in the communities where we live and work,” said Eliza Clark, who leads employee volunteerism for Andersen and participating in the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build. “Combining employee volunteerism with financial support creates a stronger community connection and engagement.”

The Birdland Park neighborhood, where the Blitz Build is taking place, experienced a second 100-year flood in 2008 when a levee breached and devastated an area where 270 homes previously stood leaving only 54 homes standing. The levees have since been rebuilt and certified.

Andersen has a storm door manufacturing facility in Des Moines. For over a decade, the Andersen team has been supporting the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity affiliate providing funding in excess of $200,000, more than 300 storm doors, multiple sets of windows, and more than 1,000 hours of employee volunteer time.

“We are very happy to support the Birdland project this week and our long time local Habitat for Humanity affiliate,” said Joe Pauley, Vice President and General Manager of the Andersen Storm Door Division. “We have tremendous support from the Des Moines Habitat staff, entire Andersen team and most importantly our employees in Des Moines who quickly filled up the volunteer sheets for the build this week. Giving back to our communities is an important part of who we are at Andersen”

Orlando Cheeriodicals

Andersen Windows and Cheeriodicals Utilize Team Building

Orlando, FL, April 28, 2017 –A team of employees from Andersen Windows, along with Cheeriodicals, delivered cheer in the form of 150 big green boxes to patients at the Florida Hospital for Children during a “Cheeriodicals Day” event held on April 28, 2017. Cheeriodicals are “big green boxes of cheer” made up, in this case, of age-appropriate magazines and activity books, room decorations, puzzles, stickers and games for the children to enjoy.

During the AIA Conference on Architecture held in Orlando, the Andersen Team collaborated with architects attending the Andersen booth to compile the gift boxes. To help educate attendees Andersen, Cheeriodicals, and Florida Hospital kicked the day off speaking at Hanley Wood’s Architect LIVE event, highlighting the unique collaboration and opportunity to spread cheer. “The atmosphere in the booth was really energizing as everyone worked together to create something bigger than themselves,” said Gary Massenzio, Architect Sales Rep. “It was a lot of fun and very rewarding.”

“We’re so excited to deliver smiles to the Florida Hospital for Children today,” said Ben DeLoach, Director of Business Development and Events of Cheeriodicals. “This is the third time we’ve worked with Andersen this year to assemble Big Green Boxes of Cheer to deliver to hospitalized children and their families. The experience has been life-changing.”

“It has been such an amazing day for the children and families at our hospital today,” said Lisa Robertson, Patient and Family Experience Manager at Florida Hospital for Children. “We were so pleased to have the Andersen team and architects visit today to spread cheer to the children and families in our hospital.”

After a special delivery to the hospital, free of charge, by Two Men and a Truck, Orlando, Cheeriodicals, employees from Andersen Windows, AIA, as well as architects from across the US began handing out the big green boxes of cheer to patient families at the hospital. The boxes were tailored to boys or girls and specific age groups and are sure to bring joy to the children.

“Andersen is deeply engaged in serving our community, including the community of Orlando. Today’s event was special for all involved and we are so proud to be a part of it,” said Sandi Andrews, Sales Director at Andersen Windows.

Cheeriodicals Day is catching on across the country. Cheeriodicals has worked with children’s hospitals in dozens of markets nationwide including: Houston, Birmingham, Cincinnati, Chicago, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Columbus, New York and Omaha on Cheeriodicals Days and has plans to continue working with corporate sponsors to bring cheer to children’s hospitals throughout the country.

Andersen Corp. Earns 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award

BAYPORT, Minn., April 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — Andersen Corporation, including its subsidiaries, has been named a 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award winner, the highest honor given for continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. Andersen’s accomplishments will be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. on April 26, 2017.

An ENERGY STAR® partner since the Windows program began in 1998, Andersen is known for its long history of leadership in producing energy efficient products. Andersen was the first window manufacturer awarded the ENERGY STAR National Window Partner of the Year in 1999.

Andersen’s leadership in energy efficiency is exemplified through products that have helped set industry standards for minimizing environmental impacts while maximizing energy efficiency, performance and durability for customers.  Andersen’s dedication to promoting the ENERGY STAR program is centered on advancing energy-efficient products within its four major brands, and educating all stakeholders about the benefits of ENERGY STAR certified products and programs.

In 2016, Andersen’s top three ENERGY STAR related accomplishments included:

  1. Advancing energy efficiency ratings across the portfolio. Andersen now offers products that are ENERGY STAR® v. 6.0 certified in the Northern Climate Zone; added PassiveSun® glass and HeatLock® coating to most product lines for greater energy efficiency options; and also increased sales of Andersen® A-Series products with triple-pane glass – recognized as Most Efficient of ENERGY STAR in 2017 with specific glass options.
  2. Expansive outreach to consumers. Andersen deployed a multi-faceted campaign to educate consumers about energy efficiency benefits. Specific tactics included social media infographic, bylined articles and educational videos. Andersen also worked directly with the EPA to develop an engaging in-home ENERGY STAR® Scavenger Hunt for kids.
  3. Reducing operational energy use and increasing renewable energy. Andersen Chairman and CEO Jay Lund launched a Chairman’s Sustainability Award to recognize employees who deliver impressive environmental results. The winning site reduced its energy consumption by 20 percent through an LED lighting upgrade – helping Andersen to drive closer to an enterprise goal. Andersen also announced a subscription to up to 19 megawatts of solar energy through Xcel Energy’s Solar*Rewards Community® program.

“Andersen is honored to receive the 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award,” said Sal Abbate, Senior Vice President, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Andersen Corporation. “We are committed to educating consumers about the critical importance of selecting energy-efficient windows that last. The ENERGY STAR® brand helps consumers make wise decisions about energy efficiency throughout their home.”

In 2015 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners saved American businesses and consumers 503 billion kilowatt hours and $34 billion on their energy bills, while achieving broad emission reductions.

“The 2017 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award reflects how Andersen employees bring to life our company value of corporate citizenship, and lead by example, reducing environmental impacts by making our operations more energy efficient,” added Eliza Clark, Director of Sustainability and Environmental, Andersen Corporation. “Lowering energy consumption is a win for all of us and the right thing to do for the environment.”
